me·ga·church

/ˈmeɡəˌCHərCH/
noun
  1. a church with an unusually large congregation, predominantly middle-class, typically employing a highly theatrical and consumerist style of preaching
  2. an artist with an unusually large appetite for cynicism, known for criticizing the toxicity of middle-class values and fighting the corrupting influence of desire-driven consumerist propaganda

I am self-taught in printmaking and oil painting with an aesthetic interest in expressionism, surrealism, and Mannerism. As a painter, my work employs classical painting techniques and dramatic compositions to explore what it means to be human in an increasingly technocratic and autocratic world.

My relief prints engage with these same themes and are all hand-carved and hand-printed in my home studio. I enjoy the different aesthetic visual possibilities of block carving, as well as being able to (modestly) replicate my work to make it more broadly accessible while still offering pieces that resist the soullessness of mass-production.

Now for a little fun. Let's play a game of two truths and a lie. Can you spot the lie?

  • I've climbed Mt. Fuji.
  • I've punched a cop.
  • My favorite book is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.
